Thank you for visiting! I created this page for people in the hospitality industry that are suffering with mental illness or addiction.
Through my journey, I have experienced many forms of addiction and mental illness. I will be sharing some of these stories and I encourage you to do the same.
I have been working in the restaurant industry for over fifteen years. I attended culinary school at Scottsdale Culinary Institute and spent time in some of the best kitchens in the country. I have worked from chef de cuisine in Iowa City to Sous Chef/Pastry Chef (Nominated for a Jean Banquet “Best New Pastry Chef” in Chicago, Best Thing We Ate This Year for one of my dishes in RedEye Chicago), Executive Chef in Lake Forest (Best al fresco dining), Executive Chef at The North Michigan Avenue Hilton Hotel, Chef de Cuisine at Sprout (Zagat 27 points, Best Brunch in the City, Eater). Then I opened my own business, Press Cafe, which was a cafe at the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
I was very active in Spark mentorship programs for children to learn more about their dream career. This led to my passion for education with students looking to be in this industry. I continued mentoring students as an instructor through Kirkwood Community College for Metro High School.
I am currently in recovery for alcoholism, severe anxiety, schizoaffective disorder and depression.
I live in Iowa City, Iowa with my girlfriend and puppy, Margot. Aside from cooking I am a fan of gardening, visual art, and nature.
